Getting to Flemington

Flemington is located 6km northwest of the CBD.

It is recommended that racegoers enter Flemington via the Dynon Road - Kensington Road - Hobsons Road route.

You may experience heavy traffic conditions travelling by car to Flemington via the CBD. Delays in Ascot Vale Road at the railway gates can also be expected due to increased train frequency.

We advise that you arrive at the racecourse early as it will give you plenty of time to explore the delights of Flemington.

Car parking

Public car parks

Limited public car parking is available in the centre car park. A $20 parking fee applies. Racegoers should enter off Smithfield Road at the Stables Drive entrance.

VRC Members' car parks

Members' parking in the Unreserved Car Park must enter via Flemington Drive off Epsom Road. Members' Reserved Car Parks (The Nursery, The Rails and The Domain) site holders should refer to directions provided with their information pack.

Reserved dining car parks

The Terrace, Skyline, Panorama and The Gallery Restaurant racegoers should refer to directions provided with their ticketing packs.

Corporate marquee enclosures and suite car parks

Trackside, Winning Post, The Perch, The Village, The Home Straight, Hill Stand Corporate Suites and Hill Stand Super Box racegoers should refer to directions provided in their confirmation packs.

Public transport


Flemington bound trains will depart Flinders Street Station (platform 8 & 9), stopping at Southern Cross Station (platform 14) and North Melbourne Station (platform 6), then express to Flemington. Make sure you have a valid Myki for your journey. Please check each raceday page on our website for train times as they become available, or visit Public Transport Victoria's website.  

No alcohol is to be taken on the train. Racegoers' bags will be checked upon entry to the course and any alcohol will be confiscated.


Catch the No. 57 tram from the corner of Elizabeth and Flinders streets. Trams stop at Flemington Drive off Epsom Road. Visit Public Transport Victoria's website for tram schedule.


Catch the Route 472 from Williamstown, Footscray or Moonee Ponds and alight on Fisher Parade, near the Riverbank entrance. Catch the Route 404 from Footscray or Moonee Ponds and alight on Smithfield Road. 

Private charter buses should enter at Stables Drive (off Smithfield Road at Gatehouse Drive intersection) and will be directed to the bus parking area.

Shuttle bus

A free shuttle bus will run from Flemington to Footscray, courtesy of Maribyrnong City Council. The service will run from after the last race until approx. 8pm.

The shuttle bus will pick up passengers at Flemington Racecourse at the Hill Gate and drop them in central Footscray, a short walk to the Footscray Train Station.

A free shuttle bus will also run from main turnstiles to Southern Cross Station from 4pm to 8pm on each raceday. 

Taxis, limousines and hire cars

Taxis, limousines and hire cars are not permitted entry to the racecourse at Members Drive or Flemington Drive. Taxis and hire cars can enter the racecourse off Smithfield Road at the Stables Drive entrance or drop off racegoers in Leonard Crescent via Langs Road. 

At the end of the each day, controlled taxi ranks will be located:

  • Outside the main public and Members' entrance near the rose arbour
  • Leonard Crescent
  • Outside The Elms turnstiles on the riverbank.


Flights depart from Melbourne and land at the helipad/passenger area, at Flemington Racecourse. VIP Lexus courtesy vehicles will then transfer from helipad to main entrance.

Park and ride

Undercover parking is available at Docklands Stadium on all four days of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Racegoers can then walk to Southern Cross Station to catch a train to Flemington. 

Travelling from the airport

The SkyBus express service operates between the city centre and Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine). They operate 24/7 including all public holidays. The SkyBus offers a Hotel Transfer Service from their Southern Cross station city terminal to your hotel, using their fleet of mini buses. For more information, contact the Skybus team or view their website to book online.

A taxi from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) to Flemington will cost approximately $35-$40.
