Daily diary - Morphettville, 1 Sept
After enjoying a stylish day full of glamour at the Flemington Spring Fashion Lunch, the iconic trophy jet-setted to the City of Churches where the community embraced the 2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour in high spirits.
Joining the Tour entourage for the first time, 1987 Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Larry Olsen shared his story of victory on Kensei with audiences at events and media opportunities across Adelaide.
Paying a visit to Melbourne Cup Carnival media partner, Channel Seven, the Cup featured on the sports desk before zipping off to the home of South Australian racing, Allan Scott Park in Morphetville.
The shine of the Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy was a welcome inclusion to the South Australia Jockey Club’s annual program of events, featuring at the Irish Jockeys Challenge cocktail party.
As a prelude to the forthcoming Irish Race Day, cocktail guests were entertained by stories from event emcee and Tour Ambassador, John Letts and his Q&A sessions with Irish jockeys and fellow Tour Ambassador, Larry Olsen before posing for photos with the Cup.
The following morning, the Emirates Melbourne Cup featured at the Adelaide Advertiser’s News Limited Tower foyer to provide the local community an opportunity to get up close and personal with the trophy and lined-up for autographs from Tour Ambassadors!
After a delicious lunch, the Tour returned home back in time for a big race meeting on Saturday at Flemington!
