NAB Schoools First School Nightcliff PS students Rachel and Elizabeth model their hat creations

2 August 2011

Continuing its travels in Australia’s far north, the Tour today embarked on the Darwin township, beginning the day with visits to NAB Schools First, Karama Primary School, delighting children of all ages, some of whom even dressed for a day at the races! Next, it was on to a kaleidoscope of colour at another NAB Schools First, Nightcliff Primary School, where students paraded creative hat designs and took part in hobby horse races, truly getting into the spirit of the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour.

The Royal Darwin Hospital, the centre of care and medical service in northern Australia was next on the Tour’s agenda, followed by a visit to the picturesque Casuarina Beach, a perfect location for some beautiful photographs and a chance to dip our toes in the warm waters of Darwin.

Following some fun in the sun, the Tour headed to Sommerville Community Services, where we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea with staff and community members, each wearing their best race day outfits to welcome the arrival of the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour.

After viewing the perfect sunset from the Darwin Yacht Club, the Tour retired early in preparation for a day in Nhulunbuy tomorrow, knowing that we will all sleep soundly dreaming of Arnhem Land adventures!
