Stopping in 29 destinations since the 1 August 2011, the final regional EMCT destinations stop in Anglesea has come around quickly - Time flies when one is having fun.
The first female Melbourne Cup winning trainer, Sheila Laxon escorted the prized trophy to visit coastal Victorian town, Anglesea which held a big day of community events to aid the Anglesea Skate Park fundraising committee.
The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chairman, Mr Michael Burn joined the Tour party for his first Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour experience, where he was delighted by how the community embraced the golden Cup and celebrated the ‘race that stops a nation’TM.
Under the sun at the Anglesea Riverside Markets, local stallholders and community groups sold their wares and the Tour party was officially welcomed by Anglesea Lions Club President, Harry Wendt.
Alongside the colourful stalls, local business flexed their biceps in the ALCOA Anglesea Head of the River rowing race, the esteemed title of which was bestowed upon Hocking Stuart Real Estate later in the day.
Continuing the sporting theme, the 2011 AFL Premiership Cup, joined the day’s festivities, offering a double draw-card for Cup lovers around the region.
Budding local Picasso’s showcased magnificent works at the Anglesea Art House, with Melbourne Cup winning trainer Sheila Laxon awarding a beautiful oil artwork aptly titled ‘The Cup’ the inaugural Anglesea Cup art prize.
Lunch at the Bowls Club was followed by a vibrant hat parade from local school students and a Fashions on the Field competition.
In the afternoon, the Tour party headed to Blue Cross, an aged care facility on the town’s outskirts, where residents listened intently to the stories of VRC Chairman, Michael Burn and Tour Ambassador, Sheila Laxon.
The sell-out dinner event at the Anglesea Golf Club, saw true and tall Melbourne Cup tales spoken long into the evening with popular guest of honour, the 2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy joining a long list of entertainment, where raffles, auctions and a best dressed competition added to the fun atmosphere.
