Myer Fashions on the Field results for AAMI VIctoria Derby Day
29 October 2011
The eyes of the fashion world are all on Flemington with the Melbourne Cup Carnival kicking off today, featuring the likes of world-renowned hat designer, Philip Treacy OBE and Fruche Style Ambassador, J. Alexander on course.
At the Myer Fashions on the Field enclosure, entrants were resplendent in every variation and combination of the traditional black and white with occasional splashes of colour.
Jess Coad, 28, from Launceston, Tasmania, wowed the judging panel – including international runway coach J. Alexander - with her black and copper ensemble. She took out the first day of the Women’s Racewear competition in a floaty mid-calf Scanlan and Theodore black dress highlighted with a self-crafted copper belt and copper coloured hat designed by Tasmanian milliner, Susan McArthur.
The first runner up was Claire Centra from Sale who wore a stunning black Aurelio Costarella dress with beaded shoulders. Second runner up went to Sarah Schofield from Bannockburn, who impressed the judges in her self-made black spotted outfit complemented by colourful red millinery, clutch and gloves.
As the Myer Fashions on the Field Daily Winner, Jess will go on to compete in the Victorian final on Crown Oaks Day for a place in the National Final later that day. The National winner will drive away in a Lexus IS250C Sports Convertible, and receive a $5,000 Myer Shopping Spree as well as a range of other prizes.
In the prestigious Men’s Racewear competition, gentlemen in all their finery competed for a chance to win the coveted title and take home the incredible prizes on offer.
Stephen Genoglou, 21, from Melbourne, was the big winner in the men’s fashion stakes, taking out the competition in a dark grey Arthur Galan suit, checked shirt and dotted bow tie.
Stephen will receive a Lexus RX 350 for 12 months, valued at $20,000, a trip for two to the Kong Kong Races in December and a $6,000 Myer Shopping Spree. He will also be treated to a meet and greet opportunity with Myer Ambassador Jennifer Hawkins, a Master Collection Longines watch, a TCL Entertainment package and Antler luggage.
David Witko from Ringwood was awarded first runner up, in a New England grey suit and black tie.
Second runner up was Daniel Brophy from West Melbourne in a navy Leopold suit, white shirt and bow tie.
Myer Fashions on the Field continues on Emirates Melbourne Cup Day with Women’s Racewear in the morning, followed by the invitation-only Design Award, with international guests Philip Treacy and Chiara Passerini to join the judging panel.
