Myer Fashions on the Field concludes in a burst of colour
3 November 2011
Bright, bold spring colour triumphed on the final day of the Myer Fashions on the Field competition on Crown Oaks Day, with Angela Menz from Canberra announced as the National winner.
Angela was in tears when her name was announced, having now fulfilled her dream of taking out the prestigious title at Flemington. Embracing the block colour trend of the season, her stunning self-made outfit comprised a hand-made and dyed chartreuse pencil draped skirt and pink silk sleeveless blouse. Her own millinery creation, an orange straw sculptured headpiece with diamante trim, completed the outfit along with pink and orange accessories.
The National Final featured six representatives, one each from New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria, the latter crowned earlier in the day with Alex Foxcroft taking the honours in a vibrant pink dress with feather-like detail and pink and orange millinery.
Louise Struber from Cairns was awarded first runner up in 1940s spring-themed outfit with skirt and top made by local Cairns designers and Victoria’s Alex Foxcroft impressed the judges for the second time, finishing second runner up.
Myer Ambassador Jennifer Hawkins joined Sass & Bide designers Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke on the judging panel to decide the all-important winner with Hawkins taking to the stage to announce the winner.
A passionate fashionista who designs and makes all of her own outfits, not only has Angela been awarded the ultimate fashion title, she also drives away in a Lexus IS 250C Sports Convertible valued at $85,050. The major prize also includes a $5000 Myer Shopping Spree, a TCL Entertainment Pack, a Longines Master Collection watch and Antler luggage.
Crown Oaks Day marks the conclusion of the prestigious 2011 Myer Fashions on the Field competition, however the fashion action does not end there. Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field will be held on Saturday, featuring categories for Juniors, Seniors and a new category for families to enter.
