Fashion Stakes High for the Melbourne Cup Carnival

27 October 2011

The Victoria Racing Club and Myer officially launched the 2011 Myer Fashions on the Field competition today at Flemington by uniting the state finalists for the first time ahead of the National Final on Crown Oaks Day.

Now in it’s 49th year, the celebration of Australia’s largest and most prestigious outdoor fashion event was held at the Myer Fashions on the Field two-story enclosure located at the east end of the famous Flemington front lawn.

Myer Racing Ambassador Rebecca Judd, Myer Menswear Ambassador Kris Smith and Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassadors Jess Sinclair and Chantelle Delaney were on hand to help celebrate the occasion.

Hosted for the first time by Fifi Box from Channel Seven, and now in his third year as co-MC, top UK and Myer designer Jeff Banks, the dynamic duo introduced the Myer Fashions on the Field state winners.  Representing WA, SA, Queensland, NSW and Tasmania the finalists were wearing their winning outfits in which they will compete for the national title and the major prize worth over $100,000.

Guest were delighted when Judd, Smith, Sinclair and Delaney were joined by Myer models showcasing the latest racewear trends for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which included splashes of bold colour, romantic floral prints in flirty and floaty fabrications complimented by whimsical feminine millinery.

Designer Arthur Galan also took part in the official proceedings along with leading milliner Lisa Tan. Both from the Myer stable, Galan and Tan gave their tips for dressing for the Melbourne Cup Carnival and what they will be looking for when judging Myer Fashions on the Field.

All four trophies for the week – the AAMI Victoria Derby, the illustrious Emirates Melbourne Cup, Crown Oaks Day and Emirates Stakes Day – were also on show.

This year’s competition again boasts a phenomonal prize pool valued at more than $400,000, including a brand new Lexus IS 250C, TCL Entertainment Pack, Myer Shopping Sprees, Longines watches, Antler luggage, weekend stays at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, and much more.

To ensure inclusion in the Myer Fashions on the Field Competition during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, pre-registration has now closed but limited on-the-day registrations will be available for Victorian entrants.
