Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field results
5 November 2011
Emirates Stakes Day saw family fashion at its best during the Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field competition. People of all ages competed for the first ever title and impressive prize pool of over $15,000 in the newly introduced family category including a family trip to Dubai flying Emirates.
The Kibbis Family from Geelong took out the honour wearing 60s inspired, colour blocking race wear. The mother, Jacky sporting a bright yellow Wayne Cooper dress was accompanied by her daughter Charlie in a pink and orange cape ensemble made by her Grandmother – making it a family affair. The electric outfits lit up the runway as the two struck a pose and cemented their title as the first ever Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field Family Winners.
Up and coming fashionistas ruled the catwalk in the junior competition with girls and boys aged between 6 and 12 flaunting their racewear bests. Hats and fascinators proved to be the most fashionable accessories with most young boys gracing an on-trend fedora. The junior girls did not take a back seat, matching their clutches with their shoes and donning sensational accessories in a sea of colours.
Mia, 6, wearing a blue and white polka dot peter-pan collared dress, a fantastic soft horse bag and a sweet heart smile became the 2011 Emirates Stakes Day Junior Girls Winner.
In the boys counterpart competition, after a title of runner-up in 2010, Zakariya, 7, stole the prized title in a white jacket and stunning aqua pants, topping it all off with a feather clad trilby.
Cheered on by their younger siblings, the Senior Boys and Girls struck a confident pose at the end of the catwalk. With outfits styled sophisticatedly from head to toe, the competition saw structured dresses, feminine floaty fabrics and pops of colour.
Stakes were high when Millie, 15, was announced as the winner of the Senior Girls competition in an extravagant ensemble of lawn green and black. The structured bodice and soft hoop skirt were complimented by a disk style fascinator with highlights of the same colours as her dress. Fedele also 15, was shocked to believe he was crowned Mr Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field, looking sharp in a grey skinny style suit and maroon accessories - tie, hat and pocket square.
Nina O’Brien and Sloane Boss joined the charming Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field Ambassadors Harry and Alara in judging the fashion-forward competition. The junior category proved the most challenging with 323 stylish young ladies and 52 handsome young boys, competing for the title.
The Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field marks the end of Flemington’s fashion action throughout the 2011 Melbourne Cup Carnival. With 2012 marking the 50th anniversary of Fashions on the Field, be sure to pre-register you family, children and self in what’s bound to be the most momentous racewear competition in Flemington’s history.
