Women's Racewear 2011 competition dates:
- Saturday 29 October 2011 - AAMI Victoria Derby Day
- Tuesday 1 November 2011 – Emirates Melbourne Cup Day
- Thursday 3 November 2011 – Crown Oaks Day

About the competition
Women and their racewear became a focus at Flemington in 1962, when the first Fashions on the Field competition was held to try and entice more women to the racecourse.
Today, the Women's Racewear category of the competition often eclipses the public and media attention at the track, such is the size and popularity of the event.
In the Women's Racewear category, it is highly recommended that you pre-register in order to secure your place in the Myer Fashions on the Field competition (Melbourne Cup Carnival Week only – please note this does not apply to interstate events). Pre-registrations close at 5pm, Wednesday 26 October.
When you consider the prizes, including a brand new Lexus IS 250C Sports Convertible, it's no wonder that so many women enter!
Here are four easy steps for entering the VRC's Myer Fashions on the Field at Flemington competition:
- Plan your outfit, keeping in mind the judging criteria. What a better excuse for a shopping spree!
- Dress up and turn up to one of the interstate competitions.
- Entry is free - simply fill in a registration form.
- Appear on stage before a panel of expert judges as part of the Heats process.
How to enter if you live in Victoria
You will need to pre-register to enter Myer Fashions on the Field at Flemington.
Please note that on-the-day registrations for all three days are limited.

**On-the-day registrations are limited and will close at 10.50am sharp on AAMI Victoria Derby Day and Emirates Melbourne Cup Day, and 11.50am sharp on Crown Oaks Day.
We work to a tight schedule so please ensure that you arrive on time. Latecomers may miss the opportunity to be included in the competition.
How to enter if you live outside of Victoria
Ladies, enter into one of the interstate competitions and you and a friend could be heading to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup Carnival for a nine-day trip of a lifetime!

Contestant criteria
Female contestants must fulfil the following criteria, and acknowledge that they understand and agree to abide by the criteria, as they register in order to enter Myer Fashions on the Field:
- Contestants must be 18 years of age or more.
- Contestants and/or their outfits are not permitted to promote commercially a brand, store or designer.
- Contestants must not receive any compensation from a third party for entering this competition.
- Female contestants must have appropriate headwear to complement their racewear in order to enter.
- All prizes awarded to the contestant must remain the property of the contestant.
- Contestants are not permitted to alter or add to their outfit in any way from the beginning until the end of the competition (including heats and the preliminary, daily, state and national final).
Judging criteria
A panel of judges will base their votes on the following Women's Racewear Criteria:
- Style and originality
- Appropriateness of the outfit for the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the individual
- Attention to detail with accessories (eg. hat, lapel flower etc)
- Understanding and interpretation of the current fashion trends
- Grooming and deportment
- Suitability of the outfit for the climate.
Longines Award for Elegance
The Longines Award for Elegance will be presented on AAMI Victoria Derby Day during the Women’s Racewear competition and will be judged on the following criteria.
Judging Criteria
- Elegance - It’s an attitude
- A striking use of colour and material that demonstrates a strong understanding of design
- A keen eye for detail – accessories are essential, always
- Style to stand the test of time.
The 2011 winner received a diamond Longines PrimaLuna Watch, with steel and 18 carat rose gold, valued at $4,900.
Pre-registration draw & prizes
By pre-registering for the Victorian heats of the Women's Racewear competition in 2011, you were automatically placed in the draw to win a $500 shopping spree at the new Myer Melbourne, along with two glasses of champagne at The Salon - the new Champagne Bar on Level 1 at Myer Melbourne. You will also receive four tickets to Flemington’s The Terrace Restaurant on Super Saturday 10 March 2012.
The National Final Winner of 2011 Myer Fashions on the Field received a fantastic prize package valued at an estimated $100,000, including a brand new Lexus IS 250C Sports Convertible.
