About the Competition

Held on AAMI Victoria Derby Day, the one-day only Men's Racewear category is now in its eleventh year, and regularly attracts over 150 well-dressed male racegoers.

The competition continues to grow in popularity each year and has seen a high calibre of entrants sporting a variety of suiting, extravagant shirt & tie combinations and the emergence of the hat in recent years - proving that "Fashions on the Field" is not just for the ladies.

There are no interstate competitions for Men’s Racewear.

  • Entry is free - simply fill out a registration form (which will be available online in 2012).

Please be aware that only a limited number of registrations will be taken on the day.

We work to a tight schedule so please ensure that you arrive on time. Latecomers may miss the opportunity to be included in the competition. 

Contestant criteria

Male contestants must fulfil the following criteria, and acknowledge that they understand and agree to abide by the criteria, as they register in order to enter Myer Fashions on the Field:

  1. Contestants must be 18 years of age or more.
  2. Contestants and/or their outfits are not permitted to promote commercially a brand, store or designer.
  3. Contestants must not receive any compensation from a third party for entering this competition.
  4. All prizes awarded to the contestant must remain the property of the contestant.
  5. Contestants are not permitted to alter or add to their outfit in any way from the beginning until the end of the competition (including heats and the preliminary, daily, state and national final).

Judging criteria

A panel of judges will base their votes on the following Men's Racewear Criteria:

  • Style and originality
  • Appropriateness of the outfit for the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the individual
  • Attention to detail with accessories (eg. hat, lapel flower etc)
  • Understanding and interpretation of the current fashion trends
  • Grooming and deportment
  • Suitability of the outfit for the climate.

Pre-registration draw & prizes

By pre-registering for the Victorian heats of the Men's Racewear competition in 2011, you were automatically placed in the draw to win a $500 shopping spree at the new Myer Melbourne, along with two glasses of champagne at The Salon - the new Champagne Bar on Level 1 at Myer Melbourne. You would have also received four tickets to Flemington’s The Terrace Restaurant on Super Saturday, 10 March 2012.
