Melbourne Cup Education Website Launch Melbourne Cup Education Website Launch Thursday, 30 September 2010 As part of the 150th Melbourne Cup celebrations, the VRC is launching a web-based national schools education resource for years four to nine. Developed by Education Services Australia, the site will explore the stories and experiences that have cemented the race as an important part of Australia’s history and culture. Live from September 2010 and available to all Australian schools, the resource will allow students to engage in the rich history and heritage of Australia’s greatest race well beyond the 150th celebrations. Return to Introduction Official opening of the Flemington Visitor Centre, Guided Walking Tours, Heritage Trail, Walk of Fame Official opening of the Flemington Visitor Centre, Guided Walking Tours, Heritage Trail, Walk of Fame Thursday, 30 September 2010 The Visitor Information Centre will be located adjacent to Phar Lap's statue at Flemington Racecourse. It will feature history and information displays, a gift shop and café and will offer access to Flemington's heritage site 365 days a year. Guided Walking Tours will take visitors to historic sites of significance around the 'course including our new attractions - 'The Heritage Trail' and 'Walk of Fame'. This open day has been arranged to showcase the Flemington site and to introduce the public to its new attractions. 2010 schedule of events

Throughout the 150th celebratory year for the Melbourne Cup, there will be numerous events and activities conducted across the globe as a means of celebrating Australia's greatest sporting and cultural event.

There will be new initiatives with the aim of leaving a legacy by which future racegoers can remember the 150th Melbourne Cup year. In September, the VRC will open a new Visitor Centre at Flemington showcasing also Flemington's Walk of Fame and the development of a Heritage Trail by which tours can be conducted through the heritage listed Flemington Racecourse. Importantly, there will also be an educational website launched by Curriculum Corporation highlighting the importance of the social and historical context of the Melbourne Cup.

There will be photographic exhibitions and members' events at Grossi Florentino - one of Melbourne's finest Italian restaurants. There will be regional gallery visits tying in with the Melbourne Cup. There will also be launches of The Story of the Melbourne Cup - Australia's Greatest Race in both DVD and book form.

There will be a symposium to be conducted in Canberra; a Royal Australian Mint coin and a stamp release from Australia Post; and a limited run of 150th memorabilia items and collectables.

Through the International Strategy, the 150th Melbourne Cup Trophy will travel to over 12 countries throughout the world before embarking on the 2010 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour which will commence on Monday, 27th September. All activities will act as a pre-cursor to the 2010 Emirates Melbourne Cup race.
